The lower your vehicle's C02 emissions the more affordable your car tax will be - motors that cause the least pollution are in Band A, the lowest band, and automobiles that are responsible for polluting the most sit in Band M, which is the highest band. Vehicles that qualify to sit in Band A do not have to pay road tax. Many of these are electric cars and do not have to pay out for the London congestion charge. The Peugeot 207 Economique, Ford Fiesta Edge, Ford Fiesta ECOnetic, the Vauxhall Corsa ecoFlex, the VW Golf Bluemotion and the Audi A3 Start/Stop 99 are a handful of the cars in Band A. Motorists with vehicles in the Band M bracket have to pay the largest amounts, which can equate to more than £400 for a year. Road tax discs that last for six months can only be bought for cars in Band D and above. New cars in Bands A to D will have free road tax for a single year - after that point registered keepers will need to pay.
